More than one in five Americans resorts to artificial intelligence for financial guidance, but distrust of these tools remains high. Gallup's research, reflected by Fortune in August 2026, indicates that 20% of respondents already use AI for financial advice. At the same time, 70% claim not to rely on technology to manage money. The survey exposes a paradox: adoption grows, but most still prefer human judgment in decisions involving equity.

The research listened to adults in the United States and sought to map how language-based tools — such as integrated chatbots for banks, investment applications, and virtual assistants — have been incorporated into financial everyday life. The most common use, according to the study, involves raising questions about budget, understanding products such as credit cards and financing and simulating investment scenarios. Experts heard in Fortune's report point out that AI may be useful for initial tasks, but it still fails in complex contexts that require analysis of personal goals, risk tolerance and tax implications.

Mistrust, in turn, is not free. AI applications can generate inaccurate responses, including invented numbers or recommendations outside the user's reality. In addition, the collection of sensitive data to feed these systems raises concerns with privacy and security. Gallup points out that the lack of transparency on how decisions are taken is one of the main obstacles to full adoption.

Another relevant point is the generational difference. Although the survey does not bring exhaustive cut by age group, Fortune notes that younger adults are more likely to experience AI in finance, while older adults prefer human contact. This confidence gap tends to be reduced as tools improve, but there is still no prediction for this to happen on a scale.

For those who want to better understand the subject, our portal has already published a guide on IA in personal finances, with practical examples and risks involved. The recommendation of experts is to use AI as a starting point, never as a substitute for serious financial planning. Before making decisions, it is worth checking the sources, comparing information and, whenever possible, seeking guidance from a qualified professional.
